Childcare will be available by advance reservation. Please call 932-0668 one week in advance of the show. The Variety Show is a women-only event.

This year's show promises to be as great as years before, with performances by the Feminist Theater Collective, several local women musicians, and the surprises and skits that make the show so entertaining. We urge you to buy your tickets early if you have a preference for the first or second show. The Variety Show has been one of our most popular events in the past. The show will be followed by a women's party, which always tops the evening. See you there-and remember, 7 and 10 p.m. sharp.

LABYRIS

Labyris, the women-only coffee house, is open. We need the support of the Cleveland women's community to grow and to continue to provide an alternative space to meet, talk, and relax in the company of other women.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with candlelight, coffee, a variety of teas, fine music, and wonderful chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookies. We are located at the corner of S. Taylor and Scarborough and are open Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 7-11 P.M.

Questionnaires for your impressions and suggestions will be distributed at the "Salute Our Own" dinner and dance on February 2nd and at the 4th Annual Women's Variety Show on February 10th. Please stop in at Labyris and say hello.

PITY MY FRIGID SISTERS

Oh Lord, Pity my frigid Sisters

Who have never burst into the explosion

Of a thousand lights

Whose bodies have never

Brought on by passion-filled nights

Jerked with spasms

Pity them who have never

Thrashed about with loins

Moist and throbbing

Pity them who have never

Screamed with joy.

Or broke down

With passionate sobbing Pity my frigid Sisters

All them that need be

And thank you my Lord-

There's no need to pity me

term bitterness because of unjust settlements. In addition, national statistics from the Women's Bureau of the Department of Labor support our perception that female heads of household are increasingly falling into the poverty sector. Our goal is to insure the equitable division of the assets of the marriage at the time of divorce or dissolution.

As a small organization, we feel we can be more useful in trying to affect policy makers than to continue to hear from women whose needs we really  ́could do very little about. So we have-turned our attention from the direct service we had been providing, to influencing policy that is generated in the legislative and judicial systems, such as the county and state governments, the legal profession, the Domestic Relations Court, and feminist advocacy organizations.

One of our current projects for which we are seeking funding is conducting research of domestic relations court decisions in conjunction with the Federation for Community Planning. The results obtained by studying court documents will provide some relevant facts about divorce and dissolution in Cuyahoga County and its effects on women and children. Another endeavor of Cleveland Women's Counsel is to monitor and evaluate the functioning the Bureau of Support. We will make the information from both these projects available for use by planners, ad-

vocates, and legislators. Also, we will continue to provide dissolution of marriage packets and distribute our booklets, Divorce: Suggestions, Observations, and Warnings for Women, and Guidelines for Women Seeking Psychotherapy.

We would welcome calls from people interested in learning more about our new activities and plans. -Merrily Kaplan and Betsy Tabac BERGMAN (continued from page 7) daughters really are and will always be." Yet this is not how we are or have to be. For all of Eva and Charlotte's impact as convincing female characters, there are also the Gertrudes and Janes who are trying to become more than this. One way that we develop and liberate ourselves from unsatisfactory norms of behavior is to watch the examples of others who are doing so. The progressive filmmaker as politically sensitive artist has a responsibility to provide us with cultural signs that point the direction to a more humane world. Because Bergman fails to deliver, his politics of despair and sexism betray his brilliantstyle. We are women in a state of transition. It's a shame that Bergman's political talents fall so far short of his technical accomplishments. For they are of little use to us as we move forward.
